What is the EFA Young Audience Award?

As an official category of the European Film Awards, the EFA YOUNG AUDIENCE AWARD presents three European films to 12-14-year-old audiences across Europe.

They watch the nominated films and act as a jury, voting for the winner.

Where can I watch the YAA films?

A lot of the YAA films are available online via VOD ...

With the support of Creative Europe – Media Programme of the European Union, we will bring the EFA Young Audience Award films out Europe-wide on Video-on-Demand (T-VoD) platforms, like iTunes, Google Play, Microsoft and Pantaflix, on the regional Balkan-platform Cinesquare, as well as on local platforms like Filmin!

Those who could not participate in the EFA Young Audience Award event will have the possibility to watch the nominated films online and this website will soon include the information where - for this year's nominees, but also for the films of the last three editions

What is the European Film Academy?

The European Film Academy (in short: EFA) was founded in 1988 under the Swedish filmmaker Ingmar Bergman, its first president. Today it unites 3,800 filmmakers – directors, producers, actors and actresses, cinematographers, screenwriters, editors, production designers and other film professionals – from across Europe.
Every year, the EFA presents the European Film Awards which celebrate the best in European cinema.

Who Chose the Nominations?

It's a two-step procedure ...

An international committee consisting of EFA Board Member Vanessa Henneman (Netherlands) and experts Gonçalo Galvão Teles (director/Portugal), Jacek Rembis (screenwriter/Poland), Joanna Van Der Meer (BFI/UK), Nora Lakos (Children's Film Academy/Hungary, ECFA representative) pre-selected six films. A jury of 13-to-14-year-old former YAA participants Edoardo (Turin, Italy), Luna (Vienna, Austria), Raluca (Cluj, Romania), Rannveig (Reykjavik, Iceland) and Štefan (Izola, Slovenia) then watched these six films and chose the three nominations.

Who Votes for the Winner?

The young audiences participating in the Young Audience Film Day screenings act as a jury and vote for the winner right after the screenings. The winner is then announced on the same day and receives the European Film Awards statuette. Due to the Coronavirus crisis, all theatre jury screenings had to be cancelled and the YAA took place online.
